This was brought up by Cletus44 while shooting the shit over a beer (along with other like minded car people with us too) after the RCR meet on Monday.

An Auto-x/Track friend of mine at local time attack series back in June & his 4C.

For me it has the Alfa Romeo 4C. Light, sexy exhaust noise, great handling, etc. It’s a 8.5/10 for me, it’s almost there. What makes it my anti car is the DCT. Sure it’s fast, but for me in my head with proper manual is be a 10/10.

By Anti-Car, do you mean the antithesis to what we currently drive? In that case...

F-150 King Ranch Powerstroke. Big, slow, automatic, luxury. It’s everything my car isn’t.

First one that comes to mind is the Focus RS. I was so hyped for this machine but ultimately let down by how terrible the ride is. Not just sporty stiff, but so bouncy it would be a chore to commute with. Shame, they look great and have good tuning options.

Bmw Z3 convertible. It’s so similar to a Miata, S2k, boxter, and numerous other fun cars, a nd yet I found it to be one of the most disappointing experiences of my automotive life.

An E46, the car mine tried to compete with. Allegedly an enhanced driving experienced, but perhaps a worse ownership experience in terms of reliability (in comparison). It’s also a little bit bigger when I prefer my cars to be a little bit smaller.

It depends on trim & spec of E46. It had far more in comparison to the IS. A regular spec 330 or 325 , sure. A M3 or ZHP be a little different.

I think the Alpine A110 suffers from the same problem as the 4C. It’s silly that it is advertised as an enthusiast’s car yet it has no manual option.

These cockroaches are my anti-car. Both of those pictured were mine. I only bought them because they were CHEAP, stick, not rusty (so I thought)   and no one wanted them. Garbage electric power steering that let you feel nothing and wet noodle suspension that heaved at any input. The blue one had the 2.4l engine, loaded options, and FE2 ‘sport’ suspension which fixed nothing. it was still dirty brown water trash. They’re just a plastic slobalt with the gauge cluster in the middle for some idiot reason.

I detested wrenching on them (coming from a Volvo 240 and 90’s Civic) and therefore neglected them. They were always broken but never enough to fix, perpetually GM. I want to melt them all into a big wad and then set it on fire. Just absolute garbage

But it probably feels slower. I’m gonna be honest, there’s not much new these days that can really be considered “slow” short of the lowest of econoboxes.

Honestly, these things-

I am 100% their target (not actual  demographic). 30, no kids, good salary, grew up on the F&F and simultaneously want something a little fancier. But German reliability scares and auto only will keep me away.

Honestly fat trucks hustling feel faster. Our trucks at work feel faster as they wallow about than the GTI did.

I drive a half-ton for work at “this would get me in a world of trouble if I was anyone else” speeds, and getting up to those speeds, gonna have to disagree. And if a luxotruck is more insulated than the work truck I drive, I imagine it wouldn’t feel  fast.

I see it as the only true anti-car.  If we had continued to rely on horses to pull us around, there would be no engines and therefore no cars.  Though I guess it would depend on how one defines “car”.

When Volvo started  their s40 and forgot about manuals in the US....and kept at it! Especially with turbo cars  that was my anticar.
